Why do parents and students trust the IB Study Coach?
As the coaching process went on, I observed a very positive transformation in my son. He started having study routines and was able to independently organize his day and his week. He was able to stay motivated, effectively managed his time and as a result his academic performance improved. Also, and maybe very important to notice, I did not have to nag him anymore to study and our relationship improved a lot.
What is an IB Study coach?
The IB coach guides and supports students through the academically demanding IB journey. Through the coaching process, carefully listening to each student and creating a supportive atmosphere, the IB students can be empowered in both academic and personal ambitions.
What does the service entail?
The IB Study Coach service involves working with the student on a 1:1 online sessions to develop Executive Functioning skills or, in IB terminology, Approaches to Learning (ATL). These skills encompass time-management, self-motivation, resilience, accountability, organization, thinking skills, reflection skills, and problem-solving.

Our Testimonials
parents of a 13-years-old
With an IB novice perspective, I turned to Ana. She unraveled the complexities, making it digestible.
parent of a 13-years-old
The most important thing for me was to learn how to avoid distractions and not procrastinate. Every session, Ana made me reflect and that reflection helped me find strategies that work for me. I came out of each session with an action plan and that really motivated me to keep going.
mother of a 16-years-old
Ana is more than a tutor; she connects on a personal level. Our daughter feels seen and valued, developing not just academic growth but also self-knowledge.
mother of a 15-Year-Old
I worked with Ana for eight months, and now I can plan my study week and do it according to my priorities for that week. I would not have been able to do this on my own. I really think other students should do it.
mother of a 17-years-old
Our daughter was finding two subjects very challenging: English (Language & Literature) and TOK (Theory of Knowledge). With Ana's coaching techniques, my daughter got a clear understanding of the steps she needed to take to progress and improve her grades.
parents of a 17- year-old
Ana and I met weekly online and I became much more productive. I also learnt that I can enjoy spending time with my friends and have good grades. On top of all this, I got accepted in to my first choice university.

Coach
Coaching is a reflective and action-oriented process where the client creates realistic action plans, thereby progressing from where they are to where they want to be.
Counsellor
Counselling is a professional service providing guidance, support, and assistance to individuals dealing with personal, social, emotional, or psychological challenges.
A practical example of study coaching
Private tutor/teacher:
Let me see the test and let's see what we need to revise. Ok, I see, we need to practice some more exercises on functions. Let's do exercise 13 and 14 of page 56 of the maths book.
Psychotherapist/ counsellor:
It sounds like the frustration with your math grade is affecting you. Can you tell me more about how you're feeling about this?
IB Study Coach:
Ok, it sounds like you are very frustrated with maths. Would you like this to be the goal of our session? If yes, what exactly would you like to achieve regarding maths for next week? Ok, can you tell me what you did well on this maths test? What strategies do you think were effective in getting some questions right?
If you do not know, it's ok, let's think of another subject you are confident in. What do you think you are doing that is working for that subject? Can these same study techniques be transferred to maths? If yes, how? If not, imagine a friend going through the same as you are going. What advice would you give him?

If the child has specific gaps in their learning or there is a specific skill they need to learn, your child might need private tutoring for that specific subject. However, there are cases where the child is struggling with a specific subject, and the coaching process will give clarity on the steps the student needs to take in order to improve on that subject. The coaching process will also motivate them to take those steps. When the students take these steps, the student will eventually improve their performance and will also have learned life skills (such as, asking teachers for specific guidance, asking peers for support, using tools to make effective revision). If this happens, it might not be necessary to hire a private tutor in the end. tutor might not be necessary in the end.
The Coach will be sending the parents weekly emails with the topics that were discussed in the session. In addition, parent/ carer will most probably observe an improvement in the study routines and habits of your son/daughter over time. If this communication is not sufficient, parent/carer can always contact the Coach directly. However, in order for the IB student to feel ownership of this process, the communication between coach, parents and student should be very transparent. This means, if the coach or the parents feel the need to talk to each other, this is most effective in the presence of the student as well. The concerns and questions will be discussed openly amongst the three parties. If the parent or coach feels the need to schedule a meeting without the student, this can happen but it will be in exceptional cases as this can jeopardize the relationship of trust between the coach and the student. We strongly believe that to create an effective coaching process, communication needs to be open and transparent.
Anytime between MYP1 (grade 6 or year 7) and DP 2 (grade 12 or year 13). Although the IB is a very rigorous programme, the student does not need to be highly intelligent and a quick leaner to be successful. It is crucial that the students knows how to plan the work ahead, how to manage the time, how to organise their study time. The earlier a student learns these skills, the more equipped they will be to walk the IB journey with confidence.
